9TH ASSEMBLY: More Groups Clamour For Speakership Position Follow Two other groups have urged the All Progressives Congress to zone the position of the speaker to their respective zones in the 9th Assembly. One of them, the APC South East Renaissance Group (ASERG) which made this known during a press briefing on Thursday in Abuja said the South-east deserves the position. The other, the North Central Progressive Forum (NCPF), wants the position zoned to the North-central region. Lagos Guber: Sanwo-Olu’s Victory Challenged In Court By Political Parties 2019 Elections Follow Mr. Owolabi Salis, Lagos state governorship candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, has approached the state Election Petitions Tribunal to challenge the victory of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu of the APC. The AD Chairman, Mr Kolawole Ajayi, disclosed this in Lagos on Monday at a joint news conference with the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Fagbemi Awamaridi, NAN reports. Atiku v Buhari: Presidential Election Tribunal Begins Hearing Today   The Presidential Election Tribunal will, today, commence hearing in the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, against the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressive Congress, APC, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as winner of the February 23 presidential election. The tribunal had already granted both parties permission to have access to the materials used for the election for the purpose of inspection. Findings at the tribunal’s Secretariat, by Daily Sun, yesterday, indicated that hearing notices had been sent to all parties to the petition. Atiku and PDP had, in their separate petitions, asked the tribunal to declare Buhari’s election invalid by reason of fraud, corrupt practices and manipulation of results. BREAKING: Onnoghen Ordered To Enter Defense As CCT No-case Submission The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Friday dismissed the no-case submission filed by the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, and asked him to open his defence in respect of the six of false and non-declaration of assets preferred against him. The three-man bench of the CCT led by Danladi Umar, which earlier took arguments of parties on Friday, held that Onnoghen had case to answer and should enter his defence. Contrary to the contention by Onnoghen’s legal team that the three witnesses called by the prosecution failed to give credible evidence to prove the case, the CCT held that the admission to the alleged offences by the embattled top judicial officer showed that there was a prima facie case against him. BREAKING: Kidnapped DSP Found Dead In Edo Forest  The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Godwin Oshiogbuwe, who was abducted at Ubiaja, Esan South East local government has been found dead. His body was found Wednesday in a forest on Ubiaja-Ewohimi-Agbor road by a police tactical team in a pursuit of the kidnappers. Police sources said he was killed because the kidnappers found him to be a policeman through his police identification card and pictures in his mobile phone. Late DSP Oshiogbuwe hailed from Auchi in Edo state and served in Abuja before his death. It was learnt that the recovered body has since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy. Edo Police spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said it was a search party that discovered the body of the slain policeman at Emu-Oken bush.  By Deen REPORT
BREAKING: Buhari Declines Assent To Digital Rights Bill, Four Others  President Muhammadu Buhari has conveyed to the National Assembly his decision to decline assent to five bills. Stating several reasons, Mr Buhari said he would not assent to the Nigerian Film Commission bill, Immigration Amendment bill, Climate Change bill, Chartered Institute of Pension Practitioners bill and the Digital Rights and Freedom bill. His letters of decline was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday. Mr Buhari said he decided not to sign the Digital Rights and Freedom bill because it “seeks to cover too many technical subjects and fails to address any of them extensively.” “These areas include surveillance and digital protection, lawful interception of communication, digital protection and retention etc. Which are currently the subject of various bills pending at national assembly. We therefore suggest that the scope of the bill should be limited to the protection of human right
